Dirty Down – Moss – Small 25ml Pot

Keppet's View

Moss is one of those little details that can make scenery feel much more believable. A stone wall or ruin can look a bit too clean straight off the painting desk, but add some green growth and suddenly it feels like it's been sitting in a damp forest for years.

I particularly like this sort of effect for fantasy terrain, old buildings and neglected scenery. You can use it to break up large areas of stone and introduce a bit of colour without having to paint every little detail by hand.

Dirty Down Moss Effect

Dirty Down Moss is a specialist modelling effect designed to create the appearance of moss and natural green growth on miniatures, terrain and scale models. It's particularly useful for adding age and atmosphere to stonework, ruins, walls and other surfaces exposed to damp conditions.

Key Features

  • Specialist moss and weathering effect

  • Creates the appearance of aged, moss-covered surfaces

  • Ideal for stone, walls, ruins and scenery

  • Adds natural green tones to weathered details

  • Suitable for miniatures, dioramas and scale modelling

  • Great for adding atmosphere to fantasy and historical settings

Perfect For

Dirty Down Moss is suitable for:

  • Warhammer 40,000

  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar

  • The Horus Heresy

  • Dungeons & Dragons miniatures

  • Fantasy ruins and dungeon scenery

  • Woodland bases and terrain

  • Scale modelling and dioramas

Try applying the effect selectively to the lower sections of walls, around cracks in stonework and in areas where moisture might naturally collect. Combining it with earth tones, tufts and other basing materials can help create a more convincing, overgrown finish.

You can also use it to bring older scenery back to life. Rather than repainting an entire piece, a few carefully placed patches of moss can make a clean-looking ruin or stone structure feel much more weathered and natural.
